Your local policing team is made up of dedicated neighbourhood officers and community support officers based in your community, supported by additional officers from the wider area
We work closely with our partners and engage the community when deciding our policing priorities for your area.
By working together we aim to find solutions to longstanding local problems while maintaining our wider focus on preventing crime and antisocial behaviour across Nottinghamshire.
Nottinghamshire Police use a few different ways to talk to connect with local people and deal with issues:
Our Neighbourhood Team conducts regular foot patrols across Clifton South. They are friendly, approachable, and happy to offer advice or discuss local concerns. You can find their direct contact details in the accompanying panel.
Follow the Clifton Police Facebook page for hyper-local updates, or the Nottinghamshire Police Facebook page for county-wide news.
Notts Alerts is our primary community messaging service, especially for those not on social media. It is free to join and provides emailed updates on crime, safety, and local "Beat Surgeries" tailored to your postcode. You can even reply directly to an alert to speak with an officer (non-emergencies only).
Beat Surgery - Drop-in sessions held at community centres, libraries, or the NPT engagement van. These are ideal for:
Note: Not for reporting active crimes or emergencies.
Lets Talk – informal surveys or café-based meetings designed to gather resident feedback.
Your input here helps the police set local priorities.
Upcoming events are posted on the Clifton Police Facebook page and on Notts Alerts
The Neighbourhood Team also carries out visits to schools, universities, local community meetings and any business to which they are invited.
Communication with the public is the key for us.
Street Watch is a way for Clifton Village residents to support local safety.
This "eyes and ears" initiative focuses on awareness and communication rather than enforcement.
By joining, you’ll receive guidance on reporting concerns effectively and stay closely connected with local officers to keep our village proactive and safe.
If you’re interested in strengthening neighbourhood safety and building closer links with local officers, please consider registering via the Notts Alerts portal .

The three priorities in our (Clifton) area at present are:
The City South team has achieved good results in these priority areas as noted in this recent post by Inspector Dalby .
The Neighbourhood Policing team visits numerous community groups but most of their work is with Nottingham City Council housing and their ASB team, with whom they work very closely.
Nottinghamshire Police's Neighbourhood Policing Teams produce quarterly newsletters to inform their local communities about their work and achievements to improve public safety. Please find the latest update for our area here: Nottinghamshire Police - City South News
The Nottinghamshire Police website has a wide range of resources and is well-worth a browse.

The Nottinghamshire force has a dedicated workforce of just over 3,900 officers and staff, who are supported by a growing army of hundreds of Special Constables, cadets and volunteers.
In July 2022, Steve Cooper became the Deputy Chief Constable for Nottinghamshire Police where he was responsible for Corporate Services and the Professional Standards Department. DCC Cooper has temporarily taken on the role of Chief Constable in the absence of Chief Constable Kate Meynell.
Further details of the Nottinghamshire Police leadership team can be found on the force's website.
Gary Godden was elected Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) in May 2024. Having lived in Nottinghamshire for 25 years, and spending 15 years as a police officer within Nottinghamshire Police, Gary has a good understanding of the policing service and the different communities of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner is described on the PCC website.
In his Police & Crime Plan 2025-29 ("A safer Nottinghamshire for all) " PCC Godden has outlined plans to ensure Nottinghamshire Police remains a leading light in national efforts to enhance neighbourhood policing.
The force already has 13% of its officers dedicated to the neighbourhood policing role – meaning it has one of the highest proportions of ‘bobbies on the beat’ in all forces in England and Wales and more than twice as many as the national average of six per cent.
The force covers a large area from Bassetlaw in the north to Rushcliffe in the south of the county.
