A New £8.4m centre for health and council services will open to the public on Monday.
The Clifton Cornerstone centre combines GP practices with housing and social care services.

It will also act as an information point for all city council services in the area.
The Post reported last year how the new centre had been welcomed by residents fed up of traipsing into town to get information about the council.

Staff from the John Ryle Health Centre, Clifton, and the Dr O'Shea and partners GP practice will be the first teams to move into the new building.

Staff from Nottingham City Homes, social services and Clifton Medical Practice will move in the following weekend with their services operational from April 10.

The Clifton Cornerstone, in Southchurch Drive, will also house community facilities including an integrated information desk for all council services, public meeting rooms, a community cafe and public toilets.

More health and council services will move in over the coming months and 300 staff will eventually work in the building.

The community cafe is expected to be up and running in early summer and an official opening ceremony for the building is planned for late June
Glen O'Connell, director of legal services at the city council, said: "By working in partnership with our NHS colleagues we can improve access to a range of services and new community facilities for the benefit of local people.

"This is a major investment in the area and we are delighted that Clifton residents have been so involved in making suggestions for what they would like to see in the building and even choosing its name."

Clifton is one of five sites in Greater Nottingham being developed by Greater Nottingham Lift - Local Improvement Finance Trust - as part of a 25 year public/private sector partnership agreement to improve community services.

More Lift projects are in the pipeline for other parts of the city.

Clifton resident Clare Ashton, chairman of the Clifton Health Action group, said the new building would bring lots of improvements for the community.

"What's really good about it is we have got all the services under one roof in one building in the middle of Clifton," she said.

"It's going to provide easier access for everybody."

POLICE SUCCESS

It seems a while ago now but just to let you know, last Bank Holiday the local police team carried out a campaign targeting Off Road machines. Although I personally thought it to be a very quiet weekend, I was amazed a the success: They issued 9 section 59 notices, issued 4 x £200 no insurance fines, seized 2 motorcycles and 1 motorised Go-Cart. In addition they crushed 4 cars under operation rust bucket. On behalf of the Village and Neighbourhood Watch I would like to congratulate PC Darren White and the team for a terrific job, and for sending out the message, they won't be tolerated.
